President Harry Truman changed the United States military after World War II by 3. banning racial segregation in the military. Prior to the Korean War, people of all races were allowed to enlist, but they would be kept in segregated platoons. In 1948, however, President Truman issued Executive Order 9981 which desegregated the Armed Forces.
