What you need to do here is find the greatest common factor. This would be the highest number you can get that divides two numbers equally. To find the GREATEST common factor of two numbers, you need to start by finding their FACTORS. Their PRIME factors.
Primes are numbers that can't be divided into with wholes. 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23...etc.
24 = 3 × 2 × 2 × 2
18 = 3 × 3 × 2
Now we take out all of the prime factors that the numbers share. That would be a 2 and a 3.
