D. Boers were the first to colonize South Africa, and Afrikaners are their descendants.
Boers had settled in the Cape of South Africa where they were mostly farmers working on the land. They had a hostile relationship with the many tribes living in that region. They were unhappy with the British rule, but later became more prominent in administrative and urban affairs. Afrikaners are their descendants. Afrikaners are white South Africans who claim Dutch descent and speak a dialect of Dutch. They make up 5.2 percent of the South African population.
