Mary McLeod Bethune was the first female advisor to President Roosevelt.
Explanation:
Mary McLeod Bethune was an educational figure and activist for women's rights. She was born in Mayesville, South Carolina on July 10, 1871. In 1888 she studied at the Scotia Seminary and graduated in 1894. After having teaching experience in several schools, in 1904 Bethune established an institution to train African American girls in the Daytona area in industry. The school was later merged with a male-only school, the Cookman Institute, and was named Bethune-Cookman University in 1929. During World War II, she worked as a special assistant to the Secretary of War and assistant director of the Women's Forces Corps. She was in charge of preparing the troop candidates and also encouraged President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and government and military officials to use more black women in the national defense program.
