Read Red Jacket's speech, "Red Jacket Defends Native American Religion", in Module 1. In your own words, explain Red Jacket's reasons for not converting to Reverend Cram's religion. Which of the these reasons seems most persuasive to you. Why?

Sagot :

Answer:

Red Jacket explained why he and his people would not convert to the Reverend's religion. To begin with, he has no basis for trust because the white man has done many wrongs to his people. Furthermore, he is perplexed as to why the white man debates religion and believes that God would have given them the "book" directly. Because God made them look and act differently, he speculated that God might have expected them to worship Him differently as well. Most interestingly, he asserted that his people already practiced their own religion.
