I believe the first answer is protein instead of genes. Genes compose of DNA and histone. Histone is a protein that DNA cluster onto though I think you don’t need to know this in details in middle school.
What tipped me off is the word “production”. DNA does not produce genes because it is a part of it. Instead, DNA sequences is transcribed into mRNA, which is translated into amino acid polypeptide chain. It folds into proteins, which are the main substance composing our bodies.
